What's Changing in VAT in 2026

2026 brings several significant changes to the VAT regime that every business owner should know about — especially with the country’s transition to the euro as the unit of account.

Thresholds and registration. The mandatory VAT registration threshold is now calculated in euros instead of leva. If your company’s turnover is approaching the threshold, it’s good practice to monitor it continuously rather than only at year-end, to avoid late registration and penalties.

Filing deadlines. VAT returns are still filed monthly, but the tax authority has announced stricter enforcement of late filings. We recommend automating your document processing to avoid missed deadlines.

What to do now. Review your contracts with suppliers and customers to make sure prices are correctly stated in euros, and consult your accountant about the specific impact on your business.
